Thembelihle Hlatshwayo ( 18) from Duduza lives with her father, grandmother, and aunt. In 2023, she was in matric at Mom Secondary School. In the year of her matric she fell pregnant but she continued with writing her examinations and she passed. With the assistance of Social workers in school, she had access to various types of support. These included individual therapy, bereavement counselling, educational and support groups, trauma debriefing, sexuality programmes, dialogues, stress management programmes, study skills, motivational talks and pregnancy support. Thembelihle was one of the learners who attended the send-off ceremony hosted by the MEC of Social Development in Gauteng, Mbali Hlophe, for social development beneficiaries who passed their Matric in 2023. Thembelihle passed her matric with a Bachelor pass and hopes to persue a career in Office Administration at Gauteng City College . Her child is now receiving the child support grant.
