On the 17^th of June 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on the further opening of the economy and the recent heartbreaking cases of gender-based violence in South Africa. Ramaphosa stated that in the past few weeks, no fewer than 21 women and children have been murdered and he went on to call gender-based violence the country’s second pandemic – and we couldn’t agree more. We take a journey through the quest to eradicate this plaque.
