When South Africa became a democracy, one of the things the new government had to contend with, was child poverty. In 1996, the CSG was introduced to deal with child poverty. To date, it reaches 13 million children. The journey from 1996 – 2023.

Sustainable Livelihoods Approach: Mama Alice

Ma Alice is the local seamstress whose business had always faced challenges of low production numbers due to her sewing machine. In 2021 the Department of Social Development identified Ma Alice as a business that needed support by supplying with a new industrial sewing machine, an Industrial Over Locker Machine, 3-reel complete with table, stand, and half HP motor.
