From the struggle for equal education in 1976 to over 615,000 matriculants today, South Africa’s pro-poor policies have transformed lives. Through social security, school nutrition programmes, and education support, the government—across various departments—continues to break the cycle of poverty, ensuring every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Since 2015, the Department of Social Development has worked with the Department of Basic Education, Sassa and NSFAS to track the children who receive social protection services. This was made possible by realising an integrated system for the protection and account of SA's children. We trace the children who received social grants and how this program continues to assist by keeping children in school. #DSDTopAchievers2024 #SocialSecurityForAll #30YearsOfDemocracy
