Phumlani is a 17-year-old who lost his mother when he was one year old. Being an orphan, he was raised by his siblings. The children's act makes provision for siblings to look after each other. They survived on the foster child grant and attended Simunye Secondary School in Bekkersdal. He wrote his national senior certifucate in 2023 and passed with a Bachelor's pass, obtaining four distinctions. He had aimed for five. Phumlani was one of the 250 young people invited by MEC of Social Development in Gauteng, Mbali Hlophe to a send-off ceremony for social development beneficiaries who passed their Matric in 2023. He has now been accepted at the University of Witwatersrand to pursue his studies in electrical engineering.
